ChatGPT ads performance, read campaign by campaign

Every day Borealis reads each campaign's spend, impressions, clicks, click-through conversions and attributed purchase value, up to yesterday's complete day, in the ad account's currency and time zone. Each metric is judged against that campaign's own past, not a generic benchmark.

Spend and impressions

What each campaign spent and how often its ads were shown. Whether a campaign buys impressions (CPM), clicks (CPC) or optimizes for conversions, every cost metric starts here.

Clicks, CTR and CPC

Whether people still click your ads in ChatGPT conversations, and what each click costs. A falling CTR with steady impressions points at relevance — the creative or the ad group's context hints — not the auction.

Click-through conversions

The conversions OpenAI credits to ad clicks for the events attached to each campaign, sent by the Measurement Pixel, the Conversions API or both. View-through conversions, which OpenAI reports separately, stay out.

CPA and conversion rate

Spend per conversion and conversions per click. Together they separate a pricier auction from a problem after the click: the site or the conversion tracking.

Purchase value and ROAS

The value of attributed purchases (order_created events) in the account's currency, so ROAS and value per conversion are calculated the way OpenAI does. It is only as complete as the amounts your purchase events send.

Example

ChatGPT ads alerts that come with a cause

Alerts cover CPA, ROAS, conversions, CTR, CPC and clicks per campaign; here are three from an OpenAI Ads account, with illustrative numbers.

Critical

CPA up 59% on a conversion-optimized campaign

In Leads — oCPC, post-click conversion rate fell 37% while CPC held; the drop started four days ago and explains 71% of the account's change. Clicks still arrive, so check the lead_created event in the Measurement Pixel and Conversions API — the campaign also optimizes delivery toward it.

Attention

Clicks down 29% on a CPM campaign

In Awareness — CPM, impressions held but CTR fell 31%: the ads show as often but get clicked less. The campaign pays per thousand impressions, so each lost click raises the real cost; review the chat card's title, body and image and the ad group's context hints.

Opportunity

ROAS up 46% with fewer purchases

In Purchases — CPC, conversion rate dipped 10% but the attributed value of each purchase rose 62%. Borealis marks it as an opportunity, not a drop in conversions: find what brought the bigger orders and give it more budget.

OpenAI Ads

Connect OpenAI Ads with an API key

OpenAI Ads connects through an API key rather than a sign-in: in OpenAI Ads Manager, open Settings, create an API key for the ad account and paste it into Borealis. Borealis checks it with OpenAI before saving it, stores it encrypted and never shows it again.

Each key reaches exactly one ad account, so you connect one key per client account and add it to that client's project. When you replace a key, Borealis refuses one from a different ad account, so a connection keeps reading the account it was set up for.

  • Read-only by design: OpenAI keys can also edit campaigns, but Borealis's code only allows reading the ad account and its reports.
  • Aggregated data only: spend, impressions, clicks, conversions and purchase value per campaign, per day. No personal data about who saw your ads and no conversation content.
  • Encrypted: the key is stored with AES-256-GCM, decrypted only on the server and never sent to your browser.
  • Revocable anytime: disconnect in Borealis to delete the stored key, or revoke the key in Ads Manager's Settings to end access at the source.

FAQ

Questions about ChatGPT Ads monitoring

Is Borealis a ChatGPT ads tracker for competitor ads?

No. ChatGPT ads trackers show which brands appear in ChatGPT answers. Borealis monitors the performance of the OpenAI Ads accounts you connect: spend, clicks, conversions, CPA and ROAS per campaign.

Can Borealis edit or pause my ChatGPT ads?

No. OpenAI Ads API keys can also create and edit campaigns, but Borealis is restricted in code to read endpoints and never creates, edits, pauses or activates anything.

Can I see ROAS for ChatGPT ads?

Yes, when your purchase events carry a value. Borealis reads the value of attributed purchases (order_created) next to spend, so ROAS and value per conversion are calculated for every campaign; campaigns that only track leads get CPA and conversion rate.

Do I need the ChatGPT ads pixel or the Conversions API?

Only for conversions. Spend, impressions, clicks, CTR and CPC come from the account itself; conversions, CPA and ROAS appear once your campaigns have conversion events from the Measurement Pixel, the Conversions API or both.
